"Robot" is a 20th century word. Derived from the Czech word 'robota', it meant drudgery, servitude or forced labor. It was invented by Karel Capek to describe characters in his 1920 play R.U.R. (Rossum's Universal Robots). From their beginning as evil and destructive, robots have evolved through books and films to become man's best mechanical friend.
This collection is all about robot toys. Both battery-operated and wind-up, some play games, some help around the office, and some tell fortunes. We've showcased some of our favorites here. |
